Libya leader Muammar Gaddafi was reportedly captured by National Transitional Council (NTC) officials on captured on Thursday, October 20, 2011.

According to international news sites, Libyan state TV announced that Muammar Gaddafi was arrested by the revolutionary fighters but has not been really confirmed.

“He’s captured. He’s wounded in both legs … He’s been taken away by ambulance,” NTC official Abdel Majid was quoted in reports.

Nevertheless, NTC field commander Jamal abu-Shaalah told Al Jazeera that the deposed leader had been seized, but it was not clear if he was captured in Sirte and if he is still alive.

Apparently, the news came right after NTC claimed that they have already conquered Sirte, Gaddafi‘s hometown, with the 69-year old Libyan leader reportedly not seen in Tripoli, Libya‘s capital, for a long time.

As this story is developing, Libyan Information Minister Mahmoud Shammam told CNN that if Gaddafi has been captured, it will be a great victory for the Libyan people.
